He's also a comedian, which in theory should cut him some slack. But he'll also have politicians, and scientists on. So there's no line drawn between reputable information, and unserious comedy. He understands that someone's words can run amuk in others hands, especially since he has people check their phones at his comedy club. Regardless I'm ranting now. I really like your account, really enjoyed your article about Hunter S Thompsons influences!
I agree that despite his problematic views, he has a great talent for conversation and interviewing. Sometimes all it takes for a good interview is to make the subject comfortable, and let them talk. It's an art in itself.
I've been listening to him on and off since 2014. He's great at interviewing. I became disappointed by his views but I still sometimes give him a shot when he has an interesting guest on. The world needs more long-form content where people are free to talk at length.
Absolutely agree. He became a guest dependent viewing for me. Every now and then his guest is a little too "I eat meat and shoot things" for my liking. But then he'll have Bill Murray on and that evens things out. Also, everyone is entitled to their views and a platform to share them (unless you promote violence/hate) but a big problem I have with rogan is his complete lack of awareness in regards to his influence. For someone with an audience that size, comprised mostly of young adult men, he still acts like he's some guy talking into a microphone in the green room of some comedy club. His words now hold enormous weight, so when he accidently spreads misinformation it causes real damage in my opinion...but besides that I don't have very strong feelings on the matter.
Yeah, you are right. I sympathise because he is and always has been a guy who just likes to sit down and talk to other people. However, now that he has an audience of millions, he needs to take more responsibility. His mind is drawn towards crackpot nonsense, which is fine to an extent... but it gets dangerous sometimes.
